Background

Anders Moseholm is renowned for his expressive and atmospheric paintings. His work operates at the intersection of architecture, nature, and memory, creating a visual universe that reflects the fleeting nature of time. Moseholm’s art is more than a mere representation of urban spaces and natural landscapes; it is a profound reflection on how we perceive and experience the world. Through layers of painterly texture, reflections, and overpainting, he deconstructs the conventional gaze, inviting the viewer into a dreamlike, almost cinematic realm. Whether portraying the pulse of the city or the silent depths of the forest, his works are characterized by a poetic evanescence—a moment of contemplation where the boundary between reality and illusion dissolves.

Anders Moseholm: Reflections on Art

Reflections on Art: Its Purpose for the Artist and the Viewer

"My works are the consequence of a way in which I mentally attempt to breathe. They are expressions born from impressions of the world—atmospheres, reflections, and a reaction to a frantic, incomprehensible acceleration of time, where we are constantly confronted with dubious notions of growth. The individual is often left in a place where it is mostly about finding a way to live with powerlessness and uncertainty. At best, I hope that my works can inspire a split second of self-oblivion, much like when we stand before the infinity of the sea. Perhaps, in front of art, we can—without words—share immediate personal memories and sensitive layers of meaning that, in reality, mirror and reveal a common human sense of inadequacy that we live with." — Anders Moseholm

Dive deeper

Art critic Trine Ross describes Anders Moseholm’s work as a reflection on the fleeting nature of time, where past, present, and future converge within a single image. In his paintings, the city exists as a dynamic space—a synthesis of architecture, history, and memory, constantly being constructed and deconstructed simultaneously.

“Moseholm points toward the creation of art and the space itself—as well as the voyage of discovery inherent in both creating and observing art.” — Trine Ross, 2021
