Michael Kvium - Shadow Theatre
We are proud to have initiated Think Bigger – and to see the project grow. Think Bigger is the result of an extraordinary collaboration between the artist, collectors, and the gallery, initiated in 2008 and completed 17 years later. The project emerged from a desire to give art the time and space it needs to unfold, and we are proud not only to have taken the initiative but also to have followed it through to its completion.
For the second time, Think Bigger is presented in the beautiful surroundings of Trapholt, where all 36 works and the sculpture are now brought together as a cohesive whole. It is a story of immersion, relationships, and the act of thinking bigger – together.

Background
Imagine a work not created over weeks, but across 17 years. A community not solely about owning art, but about growing with it. This is the story behind Think Bigger—and what happens when art is given the opportunity to develop over time.
The story unfolds between 2008 and 2025 and manifests as a declaration of trust between artist, collectors, and gallery. An alliance that makes it possible not only to collect and exhibit art, but to work in service of art’s essence and long-term development.

About Michael Kvium
Born 1955, Horsens
Michael Kvium is one of Denmark’s most prominent contemporary artists, renowned for his strongly figurative works that balance the grotesque, the satirical, and the existential. Since the 1980s, he has developed a distinctive visual universe populated by human figures that reflect our shadow sides and collective blindness. With roots in satirical drawing and an education from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Kvium works uncompromisingly across painting, sculpture, and installation—always with the human condition at the centre. His works confront us with what we would rather not see, reminding us that it is rarely art that is at fault. It is the time we live in.
We are proud to represent Michael Kvium at Galleri Franz Pedersen. His uncompromising and deeply personal visual language has established him as a central figure in Danish contemporary art, and we are pleased to have him as an integral part of the gallery’s programme.
