Background

Frederik Næblerød (b. 1988) is a Danish visual artist born in Copenhagen, where he continues to live and work. Drawing became an early way for him to channel his energy and transform impressions into images. He graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2018, although by then he had already established an active practice with his own studio and a growing exhibition history.

His early experience within graffiti culture can still be felt in the pace of his work, its distinct contours and his handling of materials. The process is deliberately risk-driven, with an openness to mistakes, chance and materials that cannot be fully controlled.

Dive deeper

Get closer to Frederik Næblerød in this in-depth interview with OVERSTANDARD, where he reflects on his working rhythm, the influence of graffiti and the intuitive approach that continues to shape his paintings, sculptures and ceramic works.

In the conversation, Næblerød describes how he works between intention and resistance, and how materials such as oil, enamel and clay actively shape the works as they develop. The interview also explores his relationship with museums and public space, his interest in creating site-specific works, and his experiences with All Walks of Life at ARKEN.
