In Skitse (081), Jacob Rantzau allows a portrait to emerge through translucent layers of watercolour and fluid, gestural marks. The face is only partially defined, shifting between dissolution and recognition as pinks, reds, ochres, and muted greens flow into one another. Areas of untouched paper create space around the motif and emphasise the work’s spontaneous character. The result is a vivid figurative study in which colour, movement, and the human form merge.
