Schutzengel

Bronze
18 x 33 cm.
In Schutzengel – “Guardian Angel” – Christian Lemmerz interprets the angelic figure through a raw and distinctly physical sculptural language. The standing figure carries large wings, while one arm extends forward in a gesture that can be perceived as both protective and directional. The dark, uneven surface of the bronze is marked by pronounced traces and textures, giving the body and wings an almost eroded quality. The work brings the classical motif of the angel into dialogue with Lemmerz’s distinctive treatment of the body, material and form.
