In Mother, Christian Lemmerz depicts a monumental female figure through raw and forceful brushwork. The body emerges in earthy browns, black, and burnt orange, while dark, pronounced contours give the face an almost skull-like appearance. Transparent washes and denser layers of acrylic allow the anatomy to shift between body, skeleton, and painterly gesture. The work combines an intimate human presence with the physical and confrontational approach to the body characteristic of Lemmerz’s practice.
