Gesicht is an expressive drawing in which Christian Lemmerz reduces the human face to a raw, vibrating network of lines. The features appear both present and dissolving, as if the face is emerging from – or sinking back into – the paper. Lemmerz’ characteristic tension between fragility and existential weight is fully present: the gaze is hollow, the contours restless, and the atmosphere charged with psychological unease.
Executed in charcoal and washes of muted colour, the work captures an unguarded moment of introspection, where identity feels suspended, unstable, and deeply human.
