In Aufgebrochener Körper II (Broken Body II), Christian Lemmerz continues his visceral investigation of the body as a site of trauma and transformation. The figure is only partially defined – emerging as a tangle of wounds, anatomy, and abstraction. Dark reds and blacks clash with the stark white background, creating a sense of flickering presence, as if the body were appearing and dissolving at the same time. There is no idealized human form here, only an open-ended question about being. The use of mixed media enhances the materiality of the piece, giving it a raw, almost performative texture — as if the act of painting were still unfolding before us.
