In Horror, Christian Lemmerz allows the subject to emerge through an almost all-encompassing darkness. Layers of black and deep brown are interrupted by glowing orange passages, where the suggestion of a figure or face seems to appear before dissolving again. The figurative remains deliberately ambiguous, while rough brushwork and the dense surface give the painting an intense and unsettling presence.
