Christian Lemmerz2025

Torso (III) - Unika

Bronze
56 x 97 x 35 cm.
In Torso, Christian Lemmerz works with the human body as a fragmented and existential motif. The headless figure appears both monumental and vulnerable, modelled with a raw and almost eroded surface where traces of the artist’s hand remain visible in the materiality of the bronze. The body seems partly dissolved and deformed, as if it were both in the process of formation and disintegration at the same time.

Lemmerz’s sculpture revolves around the physical and spiritual fragility of the human condition. By isolating the torso – the body without a head and without complete form – he emphasizes the body’s weight, its suffering, and its transience. The rough modelling gives the figure an almost archaeological character, like a remnant from another time or a body marked by existential experience. Torso thus stands as an intense exploration of the human condition, where beauty, decay, and spirituality merge in a powerful sculptural form.
