Michael Kvium2025
Surface Living and Underlying Existence (2025)
Sold
Oil on Canvas
254 x 103.5 cm.
Surface Living and Underlying Existence (2025) is a monumental triptych in which Michael Kvium brings together three distinct visual realms into a tense and unsettling whole. On the left, a barren landscape with leafless trees unfolds beneath a heavy, dark sky; at the center, an organic, almost corporeal form rests on a cool surface, tethered by twisting connections; on the right, a dense, rhythmic field of pink, repeated shapes fills the pictorial space.
The contrast between nature, body, and interior matter creates a dialogue between outer existence and inner life—between surface and concealed layers of being. The work reflects on consciousness, vulnerability, and the human substratum, emerging as a complex meditation on psychological and biological states in contemporary life.
